Chat GPT for Career Change

I have often thought of myself as something of a late adopter with new technology but feel you should really consider using Chat GPT for Career Change because it may well save you some time and kick-start your thinking.

What is Chat CPT

Chat GPT is one of the many Artificial Intelligence systems that have come to our attention recently. Basically, it accesses information from a huge percentage of the web and can generate information in response to your questions. Here is the link.

Initially I was sceptical and negative about it on something of an ethical basis, especially when I learned that the system is widely used by students using the AI to generate essays etc. and I felt like saying it was ‘cheating’ and wrong.

However this really may be a time when there is no point shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, and asking yourself how you can use it and maintain your sense of integrity at the same time.

Inspiration

One of the most helpful ways I might encourage my clients to use Chat GPT for Career Change is to explore the different roles available to them. When you are faced with a complete mental block as to what you might be able to do with your skills you should use anything that will help you to shift your thinking.

Therefore, I entered a very simple question into the site and asked it to: Generate a list of jobs that include 80% of the following criteria and give required qualifications for each one: Helping people, working autonomously, training, coaching, supporting, careers, creativity, practical, active and sedentary, career changers, influencing.

As you can see, the criteria were very basic and my clients would usually have a much more specific and targeted list to use.

Starting Point

This is what the system came back with:

Here is a list of jobs that incorporate approximately 80% of the criteria you mentioned, along with their required qualifications:

      1. Life Coach: As a life coach, you help people set and achieve personal or professional goals. Qualifications typically include certification from a recognized coaching program, excellent communication skills, empathy, and the ability to work autonomously.

      1. Personal Trainer: Personal trainers work one-on-one with clients, providing guidance and support in achieving their fitness goals. Qualifications may include a certification from a reputable fitness organization, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of exercise techniques, and the ability to tailor workouts to individual needs.

      1. Occupational Therapist: Occupational therapists help people overcome physical, mental, or emotional barriers to perform daily activities and improve their quality of life. Qualifications may include a master’s degree in counselling or a related field, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and knowledge of various career assessment tools.

      1. Art Therapist: Art therapists use creative processes to help clients explore emotions, reduce stress, and improve mental well-being. Qualifications often include a master’s degree in art therapy or a related field, state licensure or registration, and the ability to work independently.

      1. Training and Development Specialist: These professionals design and deliver training programs to enhance employees’ skills and knowledge within an organization. Qualifications typically include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, strong presentation and facilitation skills, and the ability to work independently.

      1. Social Worker: Social workers support individuals and communities in dealing with personal and social challenges. Qualifications generally include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, state licensure or certification, empathy, and the ability to work autonomously.

      1. Nonprofit Program Coordinator: In this role, you work with a nonprofit organization to develop, implement, and manage programs that support various causes. Qualifications may include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, strong organizational and communication skills, creativity in program design, and the ability to work independently.

      1. Rehabilitation Counsellor: Rehabilitation counsellors assist individuals with disabilities in achieving personal, social, and vocational independence. 1. Human Resources Manager: HR managers oversee various aspects of an organization’s human resources functions, including recruitment, training, and employee support. Qualifications may include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in human resources, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to influence and guide employees in their career paths

As you can see there are 10 very useful ideas here. They may or may not be what you are looking for but will, at the least, give you a great starting point.

    Refine

You would take the information that has been generated and analyse, explore, refine and adapt it so that it is actually representative of your interests.

You may need to redefine your criteria, or modify the key words to either include something else or exclude a role you know you don’t want.

Above everything it will give you ideas, and somewhere to start.

    Check and verify

At the end of any data the system generates there is often a disclaimer, a reminder that you are using an AI system and not a real person.

In this example it said: These are just a few examples of careers that align with the criteria you mentioned. Keep in mind that specific qualifications may vary depending on the organization and location, so it’s important to research each career further to understand the exact requirements.

The importance of verifying the information cannot be overstated. The system can make some spectacular errors and everything needs to be checked.

Similarly, if you are using Chat GPT for something creative (like a blog) you really should check that it hasn’t picked up someone else’s article closely because you can be plagiarising others’ content. Make sure you either take some of the ideas and develop them further for yourself or use a plagiarising checker site (you can find these online).

    My Conclusions

Use whatever tools there are available to you that will help get you started, but do not forget that you cannot skip the work you will need to do on self-awareness and what you have to offer another job.

At the end of the day you have to be fully engaged and on board with your new choices, but if you can use Chat GPT for Career Change to help you get started and identify a few career options then go for it. The wheel is already invented so use it.
