Happy 2024 to you all. You may well read the title ‘Abundance Mindset’ and think I am talking about manifestation etc. I suppose in a way you could be right, but that is not the tangent I want to take in this article.
Identify your Limiting Beliefs
I want to ask you to think about your limiting beliefs about what you deserve and how that restricts what comes your way.
As discussed in previous articles the movement from one year to the next will often move us to some introspection and setting new goals. However, we are often our own worst enemy when it comes to attaining goals because we haven’t cultivated an Abundance Mindset.
I am talking about this today because I am starting a year long Purposeful Living exercise which has already identified areas in my life that could do with improvement, and I believe that it will be relevant to many of you as well.

My own experience
When I worked on this for myself I identified several areas of my life that were out of balance and determined that these were where I should focus and prioritise my energy.
One was on Creativity. By this I don’t mean artistic or craft type undertakings but allowing myself clear space in my mind to listen to my intuition. To take more risks with my goals – not being logical and playing safe.
There have been times in my life when I have had the abundance mindset and believed that I was going in the right direction. And times when that mindset has become stifled by the need to hit everyday deadlines and work in a more structured and logical way.
As part of my own journey I am working on reconnecting to my creative energy and the first step was to join a couple of workshops. (information below if you are interested)
Typically the first word that comes to mind when using the word ‘abundance’ is money, so I am going to use money as an example from here on, but it could equally well be defining your family, partnership, home etc.
The problem with self-limiting beliefs (or mindset issues) is that we are often blind to them. Actually I find I know about them, but my subconscious diverts my thought process. This means I don’t put the necessary energy into questioning them. How sneaky is that!!!
This is why you may need a coach or workshop or external voice to help you hear past your subconscious voice.
Try this
I want you to think about the goals you have or are thinking of setting.
List all your beliefs about these – do you deserve them? What will they mean about your relationships with other people? Do you believe you will have the ability to succeed? …. And so on.
Now translate your beliefs into describing your relationship with each one.
My relationship with …. (input your own word) is:
I was asked to think about my relationship with money. This was surprisingly difficult to articulate. As money doesn’t mean very much to me (a great attitude for a business owner right!!).
However, it was more than that. I was just ambivalent to it. As long as I have enough I give it very little thought. So in a way I am dismissive of it. I don’t hold negative energy around it like some people do, think that money is dirty, or having money means other people will be jealous, or I will lose all your friends …. Just don’t really consider it.
Mindblown!
The next question blew my mind. I was asked to reverse the relationship and pretend money felt about me the way I felt about it.
Did I think money would want to hang around with me?
- The answer was a huge ‘NO’.
I ask you to rethink your goals and what your true relationship is with them, and then ask yourself if your goals would be wanting to hang around with you.
What to do
Well to start with, I am learning to put a different energy into my thinking around money (remember money is just one example of mine it could be anything you want to attract into your life). For me this will mean attracting more intuitive thinking. I love intuition and work well with it, but over the last few years I have been too busy to pay much attention and have come to distrust it …… this changes back to my original relationship now. No relationship can thrive in an atmosphere of distrust.
Ask yourself
In your life – What energy attracts other energy? Confidence, fun, enthusiasm …….
What energy do you like to hang around with?
So try to replace any low, negative, depressing energies with ones you want for yourself and see what happens.
You will be starting to create a more abundant mindset.
